Practice owner
Hi, I’m Sam Skye (he/him), LPC, ATR. I’m a licensed professional counselor and art therapist based in Portland, Oregon, and founder of Full Spectrum Therapy. I work with children, teens, adults, families, and caregivers from a foundation of mutual respect, safety, and clear communication. My style is collaborative, affirming, and grounded. I see therapy as a place where you can show up fully, talk about what feels hard to say out loud, and build a life that feels more authentic, self-compassionate, and sustainable.
My practice is informed by anti-oppressive, sex-positive, and feminist systems approaches. In therapy, we may explore the effects of trauma, discrimination, oppression, shame, anxiety, depression, attachment and relationship patterns, family dynamics, identity development, life transitions, and much more. I aim to help clients better understand both their inner world and the systems around them, so change feels meaningful and empowering rather than forced.
I work from a client-centered, strengths-based lens and view clients and families as the experts on their own experience. I welcome feedback and believe the therapeutic relationship itself matters deeply. If something does not feel right in our work, I want to talk about it. Therapy with me is not about performing or getting it “right.” It is about building enough trust, honesty, and clarity to help you move toward the life you want.
My background includes work in community mental health centers, schools, juvenile justice settings, day treatment, and private practice. I have specialized training and experience in LGBTQ+ competent therapy, transgender and gender-diverse care, cognitive behavioral therapy, art therapy, adoption and foster care therapy, and exposure-based work for specific phobias. I have particular commitment to supporting transgender and gender-diverse clients, queer clients, and the people who love them. I am a sex positive counselor with experience supporting individuals within the kink community, sex workers, and those with diverse relationship styles such as polyamory, nonmonogamy, and more.
I also support clients around specific phobias and avoidance patterns using practical, structured approaches, including exposure-based work when appropriate. This can be especially helpful for trans clients who want support overcoming fear of needles so they can access HRT with less distress and more confidence. I approach that work with care, collaboration, and respect for your pace.
As a therapist, I bring both warmth and structure. Depending on your needs, that might include reflective conversation, practical coping tools, art-based exploration, support around identity and empowerment, attention to relationship patterns, sex-positive and kink-affirming exploration, or space to untangle experiences that have felt heavy, confusing, or isolating. My goal is not to fit you into a formula. It is to create a therapy process that is actually useful to you. I believe strongly that every person deserves to live healthy and full lives as their authentic selves.
As a transgender clinician, I have first-person understanding of the impact a person's identity can have on their lives and families. I am a parent to two kids on the spectrum and one extra fluffy Aussie.
