Emily Lichtenberg
(They/Them)
Art therapy Professional Counselor Associate
Are you looking for an alternative to talk therapy to support your neurospicy needs? If so, you’ve come to the right place! As an art therapist and certified ecotherapist, my goal is to come alongside you on your journey and support your process. As a queer, non-binary, neurospicy person, I am passionate about providing care for queer identities and non-traditional relationship structures in my work.
WHAT SESSIONS WITH ME LOOK LIKE
I believe healing is relational. My sessions are process-oriented, meaning healing happens through our experiences in the present moment, such as making art instead of analyzing it. I believe in a client-led, trauma-informed approach to therapy, where we co-create the therapeutic journey together. Depending on your interest, some or all sessions may include art therapy or eco-art therapy. Eco-art therapy approaches allow us to invite the art and natural worlds to join us as co-therapists. You’ll find that I will bring us back to the “here and now” in our sessions, and use a narrative approach to explore personal meaning in your life experiences.
WHAT IS ART THERAPY?
Art therapy is a form of therapy which uses art-making and the creative process to facilitate healing. My approach to art therapy is process-oriented rather than product-oriented approach, which means the act of making the art is more important than the art you make. Art therapy is for anyone, regardless of prior artistic experience!
WHAT IS ECOTHERAPY?
Ecotherapy is a form of therapy which invites the more-than-human world (often through plants, animals, and natural spaces) into the therapeutic process. This may include: discussing eco-related conditions such as eco-grief or eco-anxiety, using natural sounds and imagery in session, engaging with plants in session, or conducting outdoor sessions.
WHAT IS ECO-ART THERAPY?
Eco-art therapy is a technique which integrates principles of ecotherapy and art therapy together. There are three main formats for eco-art therapy: nature as subject, nature as setting, and/or nature as art material. These formats can be combined or used separately, depending on your needs and interests.
MORE ABOUT ME
I received my Master’s of Science in Art Therapy and am in my first post-educational year of clinical experience. I am in my second year as a certified Ecotherapist. For my ATR-P, I am supervised by Sarah Abramovitz, ATR-BC, LCAT, LPC. As a Professional Counseling Associate, I am supervised by Paige Myers-Matthews, LPC, CADC I. When I’m not wearing my art therapist hat, I’m typically either wearing my “artist” or “nature enthusiast” hats. I enjoy painting, exploring the natural wonders of the Pacific Northwest, playing violin, and knitting.
